EDITH ROBERTSON'S TRANSITION TO HEAVEN: One of Calvary's Founding Members
Edith Robertson and her husband, Ray were founding members of Calvary back in the 1940's. Her husband was our first Treasurer. Edith went to be with her husband on July 11th.
Edith Robertson, with a Quaker Christian mother, a non-believing father, and membership in the small liberal Cotati Congregational Church, struggled in her spiritual walk, but became a Christian in her early teens. When she went to college she found a sound church home at First Baptist Church in San Francisco.
It was at a church youth meeting that Edith met Ray Robertson. They were married January 24, 1937. Edith graduated from college a few months later and they went to live in Los Gatos where Ray went into business for himself, bought the Polly Prim Bakery, then a Bible Book Store and finally, Los Gatos Sewing Machines, which evolved into Los Gatos Office Equipment and Supply, which finally became 1-800 ProColor (which is still in business today). It was Ray Robertson who stood up in the old First Baptist Church of Los Gatos, and walked out with seven other families to found Calvary Baptist Church, meeting in their own homes until they could start building the church we have today.
Edith and Ray's children and the many kids they boarded hoed weeds in the lot that was purchased to build Calvary. The Robertsons lived 2 blocks behind the church on Englewood, and walked thru the fields Sunday and Wednesday night (for prayer meeting). Edith was one of the surviving founding member of Calvary and died at the age 96.
There will be a Service of Celebration in the original building on Saturday, July 24th at 1:00pm in the Large Chapel. Lamar Allen will direct the service, and members are invited to attend.
